Australia may prohibit the use of lithium-ion batteries in the home

Australia may introduce a policy prohibiting the installation of lithium-ion battery energy storage equipment in houses and garages, including Tesla's powerwalls products. Policy Australia may announce the draft next week.

At present, Australia has 1.6 million households have installed solar roofs, most of which intend to install the battery. That means a market that is worth billions of dollars, and people worry that the New Deal could put the industry down.

It is said that Standard Australia may suggest that lithium-ion batteries can only be installed in a separate "kiosk", which will increase the cost of thousands of dollars. It will not only affect the individual facilities, but also will affect some "popular" deployment, such as AGL Energy in South Australia's "virtual power plant" and so on. This also raises questions about whether the use of lithium batteries in the home garage for electric vehicle charging will also be banned.

At present, there is no standard for lithium-ion battery storage in Australia. Both the Clean Energy Council and the Energy Storage Council have issued their own guidelines, but there is no provision for disabling. John Grimes, head of the Australian Solar Energy Association, said he would not comment on the report, but pointed out that US and Japanese standards did not prohibit the use of battery storage equipment at home, while Germany is not allowed to use lithium batteries in the bedroom.
